Ryder Cup race update: After the Masters

After Danny Willett won his first Major Championship in extraordinary circumstances, we look at how that and other events at the 2016 Masters tournament affected the race to make Darren Clarke’s European Ryder Cup team.
Willett’s nerveless performance down the final nine holes at Augusta National secured him the Green Jacket and also moved him top of the European Points List. The Englishman moves ahead of Rory McIlroy, who sits in second in the list after finishing in a tie for tenth.
Matthew Fitzpatrick and Andy Sullivan were also in Masters action, with the duo occupying the final two spots in one of the lists that guarantee inclusion in Clarke’s side.
Of the five places up for grabs through the World Points List, Henrik Stenson and Justin Rose keep their places, with Rafa Cabrera-Bello and Soren Kjeldsen also part of the projected team.
While Kjeldsen finished in a tie for seventh, his second best result at a Major, Cabrera-Bello took a share of 17th to join fellow Spaniard Sergio Garcia in making up the provisional side.
