Ireland’s Seamus Power leapfrogged fellow countryman Shane Lowry on the World Points List over the weekend after the latest in a string of consistent results.
Since winning Butterfield Bermuda Championship at the end of October 2022, Power has been nothing short of consistent, producing a tied third and tied fifth finish to see out 2022, alongside a further four consecutive top 25 finishes in 2023.
The latest T20 finish at the Waste Management Phoenix Open, played on the famous TPC Scottsdale Stadium Course, saw Power climb three places on the World Points List and into the final automatic qualification spot with 45.23 points.
Should Power make European Captain Luke Donald’s team at Marco Simone Golf & Country Club in September, he will become the 13th Irish player to represent Europe at the Ryder Cup.
It was also another strong week for two-time Ryder Cup player Jon Rahm who finished as the highest placed European in the field after a solo third position.
Rounds of 68-66-68-68 saw Rahm finish five strokes behind winner Scottie Scheffler, however the Spaniard did reclaim the number one position on the World Points List where he now sits with 135.77 points.
There was also a tied sixth finish for two-time Ryder Cup player Tyrrell Hatton thanks to rounds of 70-67-67-69.
This result sees the Englishman climb six places and into the top ten on the World Points List, with 42.25 points
As it stands Rory McIlroy (1,856.50 points) Rahm (1,850.00 points), and Victor Perez (1,252.49 points) would claim the three automatic qualifying spots on the European Points List, with Viktor Hovland (61.90 points), Alex Noren (47.53 points) and Power (45.23 points) currently sitting in the top three positions on the World Points List.
The 2023 Ryder Cup will take place between Sept. 25 – Oct. 1 at Marco Simone Golf & Country Club, Rome, Italy.
