Tommy Fleetwood moves into automatic qualification place for Europe

By Ryder Cup Europe On May 26, 2025 8:30 UTC

Tommy Fleetwood edged his way into an automatic qualification spot for Europe’s Ryder Cup team on Sunday after yet another strong week on the PGA TOUR.

The Englishman is a seven-time winner on the DP World Tour and won the Race to Dubai in 2017 but has yet to taste victory in the United States despite some remarkable consistency.

A closing 68 at the Charles Schwab Challenge saw him finish in a tie for fourth in Texas - his third top ten in his last four starts – and replace countryman and fellow European stalwart Justin Rose in the sixth and final automatic qualification spot for Luke Donald’s team on 936.83 points.

The rest of the top six remained unchanged with Rory McIlroy (2981.70) leading the way from Shane Lowry (1124.18), Rasmus Højgaard (1034.03), Tyrrell Hatton (1004.05) and Sepp Straka (942.73).

Fleetwood, who famously claimed the crucial point in the European victory in Rome at the last Ryder Cup, is aiming for a fourth consecutive appearance in the biennial spectacular.

Højgaard is the only one of the current automatic qualifiers without Ryder Cup experience as the Dane looks to follow in the footsteps of identical twin brother and 2023 winner Nicolai.

Further down the qualification rankings, Matt Wallace’s tie for 22nd in Texas saw him move from tenth to ninth, while Robert MacIntyre’s tie for sixth saw him go from 15th to 12th.

Jordan Smith and John Parry both moved up three places to 16th and 19th respectively after finishing in a tie for fourth at the Soudal Open on the DP World Tour.

The qualification process will end at the DP World Tour’s Betfred British Masters hosted by Sir Nick Faldo, which concludes on Sunday August 24, 2025.
