WATCH: Monday Memories - The $100 putt
This week’s Monday Memories takes us back to The 2016 Ryder Cup when one American fan holed a putt of 12 feet to win $100US. David Johnson, an insurance agent from North Dakota, was challenged by Europeans Rory McIlroy, Justin Rose, Henrik Stenson and Andy Sullivan after Johnson heckled McIlroy for missing a putt from 12 feet on the sixth hole at Hazeltine National Golf Club. To make the challenge mean even more, Rose placed a $100 bill on the floor which would be Johnson’s if he could hole the putt. When Johnson sunk it, you would have thought Team USA just won their first point of the event as the crowd went wild. The European players signed the $100 bill, which Johnson has framed to this day. He was even seen posing for pictures and signing flags for American fans who recognised him from his clutch putt on the sixth green.
